Weekly update - 19 November 2024


• New boss, the Atonement Pillar, which will be the first boss of The Desert stage: this enemy is static and won't be able to move (it's a pillar after all) but has high defense, will summon attacks on the player every few seconds with infinite range and summons mini-pillars to aid in fight.

• New mutation "Vine Lash" which is a melee-mid range powerup that spawns 3 vines from the ground around the player for moderate damage. The vines stay for a brief time, becoming effecting "damaging walls" against the enemies, and its evolution upon reaching 7 defense will enable a minor life leech effect. Every level up grants some minor damage increase but most importantly will add 1 extra vine and will slightly increase the radius. Very effective mutation against hordes of enemies.



• New mutation "Lively Mushroom" (ex "Poisonous Mushroom") which is a summoner powerup, allowing the player to summon 1 mushroom every 5 seconds. After a brief activation time, the mushroom begins to chase the nearest enemy and will explode on touch, dealing moderate damage on impact and then heavy AoE damage. Its evolution enables the mushrooms to apply a strong 75% slow for 5 seconds upon reaching 7 attack and 7 power. Each level up grants 1 additional mushroom. One of the strongest mutations early on right now to handle groups of enemies. It also puts a mushroom hat on your fiend.



• More level design for The Desert and The Ruins stages.

• Some fine-tuning for the enemy spawn logic.

• Added the shader background of the title screen to various screens such as the game over and the pause screen.

• Soft redesign of the UIs, like the "tutorial" window is now in the "Help" button, anchored on the bottom of the screen during gameplay, which contains the "Quest" info as well: this serves the purpose to de-clutter the UI a bit. I'll redesign and develop a new pause screen as well in the next days.

• Game design wise, I've been rethinking lightly the game-flow of the survival mode (the main mode of FIENDRISE): The Ruins 1-1 -> The Desert 1-2 -> The Jungle 1-3 -> TBD 1-4 -> The Ruins 2-1 -> The Desert 2-2 etc.

In the next days I'll be working on a couple more mutations, new bosses (the Atonement Pillar had the most complex logic, others will be simpler) and the UI. I'll start working on the 3rd stage in December, The Jungle.

I'll try to pack a playable early demo with the latest updates next week~
